Lectors
The ministry of the Lector is to proclaim the readings from Sacred Scripture, with the exception of the Gospel, during the Liturgy of the Word. Lectors may also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer and, in the absence of a psalmist, recite the Psalm between the readings.
Lectors "should be truly suited to perform this function and should receive careful preparation so that the faithful by listening to the readings from the sacred texts may develop in their hearts a warm and living love for Sacred Scripture" (General Instruction of the Roman Missal 101).
Instruction and preparation to be a Lector is held throughout the year.
